The Quality of Irish Jewelry

In 1963 the Federation of Jewellery Manufacturers of Ireland (FJMI) was established to co-ordinate the manufacture of Jewelry in Ireland. While ensuring each piece of Irish jewelry was made with care and pride, the members preserve the ancient traditions of jewelry making.

Hallmarks

Jewelry has been hallmarked in Ireland since 1637. It is subjected to testing at the Assay Offfice in Dublin Castle, Dublin, Ireland to meet the standards advertised. That is, 10K gold is 10K gold. 14K gold is 14K gold.

A Hallmark is applied to each piece that passes the tests. This includes a manufacturers's mark, a standard mark certifying the precious metal content and the karatage.

All jewelry pieces from Ireland, must by law, bear a hallmark.

Diamonds

Diamonds are a girl's best friend. Choosing to please the love of your life, you should consider the 5 C's.

Cut: refers to polish and symetry of the diamond. Skillfully cut diamonds reflect and refract light through the many facets that shape diamond.

Color; most gem quality diamonds are "white" diamonds, these range from colorless to yellowish brown. These are graded from D to Z. D, E, F are colorless, G, H, I and J are nearly colorless, K, L, M, are faint etc....

Clarity; refers to the purity of the stone. Almost all diamonds are mined with tiny birthmarks and inclusions. These birthmarks and inclusions quantify the clarity of the diamond when viewed under 10x magnification.

Carat; is the term used for diamond weight. One carat is 100 points, a half carat is 50 points. As the carats increases so too does its value and rarity.

and don't forget the 5th C !!!!

Celtic pride! Wear your celtic jewelry with pride knowing that skilled jewelers in Ireland worked diligently to bring the best of Ireland to you and hope it brings you great joy and happiness.

Care of your Jewelry

You should carefully store your precious metal jewelry when not in use, prefably in a lined jewelry box.

Silver items can tarnish when left exposed to the atmosphere. Other common causes of tarnishing are human perspiration which is high in Sodium Chloride(salt), perfume, shampoo and deodorant sprays.

Jewlery should be professionally cleaned and checked periodically and handled with care at all times.
