The History of Ireland collection comprises of 12 different icons on each piece of jewelry depicting era's of Ireland's History.
THe icons are
"?" mark = The unknown past
"St Patrick" = Ireland's patron saint
"Round Tower" = from the 6th century onwards Christianity took hold in Ireland and early monastic centres evolved around a Round Tower.
"Brian Boru" = defeated the Vikings in 1014 at the Battle of Clontarf.
"Normans" = in the 12th century the invaders of Ireland were Norman, Flemish and Norman-Welsh.
"Dublin Castle" = The first Dublin Castle was built between 1204 and 1224.
"Battle of the Boyne" = In 1690 the Protestant armies of King William defeated Catholic James II. it assured a Protestant ascendancy lasting more than two centuries.
"Direct Rule" = 1800 Irish parliament was abolished and direct rule from London began.
"The Famine" = In the 1840's the potato crop failed leading to mass immigration from Ireland.
"Immigration" = Decades after the famine Irish immigration rose mostly to the USA.
"GPO" = In 1916 the General Post Office was the symbol of the 1916 uprising, a failure but it triggered the War of Independence.
"The Republic" = The Treaty of 1921 ending the War of Independence left the six counties separated from the rest of Ireland, becoming Northern Ireland. The 26 counties were the Free State, in 1948 the Irish Free State became the Republic of Ireland.
